How do I verify my Com Port settings in Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows XP?

Open Windows Device Manager.

Double-click on Ports.

Right-click the Com port to which the clock is connected and select Properties.

Verify the settings are as follows:

  • Baud Rate = 9600
  • Data Bits = 8
  • Parity = None
  • Stop Bits = 1
  • Flow Control = None

Click Advanced.

Make sure the com port number is the same as the com port you initially selected.

  • The Base I/O Port Address should be set to Default.
  • The Interrupt Request Line should also be set to Default.
  • FIFO Enabled should be checked.

Click OK to close the Com Port Properties window.

Close the Device Manager Window (Windows 2000 and XP only).

Click OK to close the System Properties window.
